The Waterfront, the region’s leading open-air shopping, dining, and entertainment district, is thrilled to be celebrating its 25th-anniversary. Located on the historic former site of the Homestead Steel Works just minutes from downtown, The Waterfront is commemorating a quarter-century of community growth with major tenant expansions, modernized entertainment, and calendar of year-long events.
Since its opening in 2001, The Waterfront has transformed the Monongahela River shoreline into a thriving lifestyle hub. To mark its 25th anniversary, the center is elevating the guest experience with exciting new additions, including the highly anticipated opening of Bombing Pot and Opal Buffet, bringing an expansive global dining experience to the Steel Valley.
These new culinary destinations join a robust lineup of recent upgrades. The recently renovated AMC Waterfront 22 theater and various experiential attractions (like Dave & Buster’s, Urban Air Adventure Park, and the Improv comedy club) continue to anchor the district as a top entertainment destination.
“For 25 years, The Waterfront has been a cornerstone of the Steel Valley, evolving from our region’s industrial roots into a vibrant destination where families and friends gather to shop, dine, and make memories,” said Emily Wittmer, Marketing Director and Assistant GM at The Waterfront. “The history of the area is vast, and the future is bright.”
Twenty-two original tenants are still staples at the property, and now, over 80 tenants call The Waterfront home. Within the past year, additional developments have taken shape on the property.

Amenities of the new apartments will include: Fitness Center, Club Room, Pickleball Court, Splash Pool, Outdoor Seating, Bike Storage, Dog Wash facilities and 106 covered parking spaces.
Siemens Mobility, specializing in rail automation, freight and passenger rail signaling, is expanding operations on the property.
Nexteel USA, a manufacturer of stainless steel tubular products, has moved into the former Ascent/Bristol Metals building.
“It’s an exciting time for the property,” said Emily. “We are seeing an increase in daytime traffic, welcoming the next generation of shoppers and are thrilled to see so many new job opportunities in the area. We are looking toward our future, featuring a diverse array of community events and new dining experiences that will make 2026 a landmark year for our guests.”
