Gage Building Receives Landmark Award

On September 2, 2010 at a ceremony at the Chicago Cultural Center, Gage Fee, LLC and its team were honored with  the City of Chicago 2010 Landmarks Preservation Excellence Award for the renovation of the 24 S. Mchigan Avenue Storefront.

The Gage Group is comprised of three commercial buildings on Michigan Avenue designed by the firm of Holabird & Roche, with a later storefront remodeling by famed architect Louis Sullivan.  The original ground floor of the building at 24 South Michigan had been removed and replaced with a granite base and storefronts.  The owners of the building reconstructed the storefront with a new metal-clad surround, designed with profiles to match the original drawings and incorporating decorative rosettes and crenellations.  The new storefronts were also designed to match the original configuration, while still accommodating modern retail tenant requirements for acessibility and ventilation.  Other exterior work included masonry repair, tuckpointing, and cleaning.  The Gage Group was designated as a Chicago Landmark on September 11, 1996.
