The 180 North Michigan Avenue Building is entering into a period of some very exciting changes.  Click on the thumbnail pictures above to view enlarged images of what these changes will bring.

Elevator Modernization

The elevator modernization project, which began in February of this year, will take approximately 2 years to complete.  Much of the “behind the scenes” work has been completed and we are nearing completion of the first elevator.  At the end of this year, we anticipate the completion of the first 3 elevators at which time service improvements should be very noticeable.  In addition to the controls and other upgrades, the cab interiors will be fully remodeled.  Car #1, formerly a freight car, will be put into service as an additional passenger car during peak building hours.  During off-peak it will be converted back to a freight car.

Lobby Renovation

Early this year M & J Wilkow hired the architectural firm of Lohan Caprile & Goettsch to prepare a design concept.   As you can see, our design intention is to replicate, to the extent possible, the look of the lobby when it was constructed in 1927.  We are fast tracking the lobby construction and anticipate near completion by year end.  A part of the lobby renovation includes the replacement of the entire store front which is depicted on the attached photo rendering.  All changes made will bring the lobby into ADA compliancy.

Exterior Renovation

The exterior renovation consists of the replacement of the monumental entry.  Additionally, all existing travertine pieces will be replaced with granite.
