A West-Virginia based discounter is expanding into South Jersey with new stores in Cherry Hill and Mount Laurel. Gabe's, which markets name-brand clothing and housewares, on Sept. 29 is to open outlets at Garden State Pavilions in Cherry Hill and East Gate Square in Mount Laurel.

Gabe's will occupy about 30,000 square feet that previously held a Linens 'n Things at the East Gate complex, said Michael Gorman of Metro Commercial Realty.

The site is adjacent to a Ross store at the Nixon Drive center.

Gabe's, founded in Morgantown, West Virginia in 1961, has more than 100 stores in 13 states.

It has opened 14 stores this year, including its first New Jersey outlets in Vineland and Mays Landing.

According to the chain's website, Gabe's can offer steep discounts because it buys, "odd lots, overruns, and one-of-a-kind finds."

"This may limit the quantity of inventory of a particular product we sell, or it may only be available in one size, color, or style," the company says.
